Fancy turning your TV into a multi-touch screen? Now you can.

iTable 2010 at CeBIT

Microsoft SurfaceFirst we had Microsoft announce their development of their Surface multi-touch table top device. Very little has been heard of it since it was first announced early 2007.

PQ Labs are now about to launch their iTable 2010 product at the end of this year, which comes in several different variaties. It is available as a table or as an overlay which you can clip onto any flat screen device such as your computer monitor or

Capable of detecting 32 touch points simultaneously and featuring object

recognition, such as detecting the difference between an open palm and a closed fist the possibilities are endless. It’s not just hands and fingers that are recognized by the interface, objects placed on the iTable can also register.

Sharing content from a mobile device is as simple as placing an iPhone, Windows Mobile or Android phone on the table and it instantly synchronizes with the iTable.

The iTable is already showing potential in the gaming market with a preview on display running Warcraft III. Not the most up to date game but still shows the innovation in multi-touch control in gaming.

The iTable is available as the coffee table style, or as an overlay as previously mentioned. At the moment this product is available to business but a more consumer friendly version will be released relatively soon. It will no doubt still be expensive for the average tech geek but I look forward to when these kind of gadgets become more widespread and accessible.
