BlackBerry Empathy concept using Emotion technology UI

RIM Blackberry held a sponsored event at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, two inspiring designers Kiki Tang and Daniel Yoong decided to have a go at a different take on the Blackberry user interface. They decided to incorporate an interface that integrates human emotions with the concept of social networking.

The result was the Blackberry Empathy concept. The phone is used in conjunction with a biometrics ring that is worn by the user to collect “emotional data”. Spec-wise it features a transparent OLED screen that remains transparent when not in use and turns opaque during interaction. The front of the device is a full touch screen surface, while the back has a physical keyboard.

Considering how RIM Blackberry is flagging a bit in the face of  iOS and Android phones, this move into an innovative social media direction might just be what RIM can take inspiration from to revive their Blackberry brand and phones appealing to the younger generation while retaining their trademark business features.
